Lots Of Love And Support At The 2023 San Diego Pride Parade
July 8 – 16, 2023 marked the annual San Diego Pride celebration, with the cornerstone San Diego Pride parade held on Saturday, July 15th in the Hillcrest neighborhood. Thousands of San Diegans came out to support and celebrate their LGBTQ+ family, friends, and community members by encouraging those marching in the parade and cheering for the elaborately decorated floats – all while wearing their best rainbow attire. The parade featured floats from local community activist groups, law enforcement, businesses, schools, casinos, restaurants, and more.
San Diego Pride was founded in 1974, putting on the first Lesbian and Gay parade in 1969 to celebrate the Stonewall Rebellion on New York’s Christopher Street. Fast forward over 50 years to today, and San Diego Pride’s mission is to bring together the skills, talents, and visions of our diverse community through numerous programs. Funds raised by the non-profit support their philanthropy efforts to foster pride, equality, and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities locally, nationally, and globally.
From talking with participants, a theme at this year’s Pride parade was that of love and support. Check out what some locals had to say about the overwhelming acceptance and support from allies in the video below.
